A team of specialized divers destroyed a sea mine found off the Black Sea, 70 kilometers off the Romanian coast
A sea mine found Monday morning 39 nautical miles (70-72 km) off the coast of the Black Sea has been destroyed, according to a Ministry of Defense statement.
Initial News: The Romanian specialized ship „Vice Admiral Constantin Bălescu”, with a group of specialized divers on board, is carrying out on Monday a search and intervention mission in a maritime district located at a distance of about 39 nautical miles (70-72 km), off the coast of the Black Sea, across Capu Midia, where a drifting sea mine has been reported, according to a press release from the Naval Forces General Staff.
The mine was sighted on Monday morning by the Romanian fishing vessel „Olimpus 1”, whose captain informed the Romanian authorities through official channels at around 08.10.
After receiving the report, the Chief of Naval Staff ordered a search and intervention mission in the maritime district where the mine was reported. The military vessel left the military port of Constanta at 08.20 and, once it arrives in the district, will act to neutralise it.
