Government: all Ukrainian children in Romania will be enrolled in schools under the same conditions as Romanian children / Ukrainians will be able to work without a work visa

All Ukrainian children in Romania will be enrolled in schools under the same conditions as Romanians, and Ukrainian citizens will be able to work without a work visa, the government decided on Monday.

Government spokesperson Dan Cărbunaru said that all Ukrainian children, including those who do not apply for protection under the right to asylum, will benefit from the right to education under the same conditions as Romanian children. They will also have the right to free accommodation in care centers, the right to receive food allowances, school supplies, free transportation, and will benefit from the national vaccination scheme.

In higher education, the Ministry of Education will be able to approve an additional number of enrolment places up to a maximum of 20%. A student accommodation subsidy of 50 lei plus a meal subsidy of 20 lei will be granted for 90 days.

With regard to child protection, given that there are already many unaccompanied children arriving from Ukraine, a task force will be set up in each county or sector of the capital to find appropriate solutions for them. At the time being, there are 186 Ukrainian children being cared for in specialized centers in 9 counties, said Cărbunaru.

Ukrainians will be able to work without a work visa, the government also decided.

There are currently more than 80,000 Ukrainian nationals in Romania who fled the war in Ukraine, of whom more than 30,000 are minors, said Cărbunaru.
