Prime Minister Ciucă announces that he is waiting for an analysis from the Finance Ministry on the surtax on the income of employees with a salary higher than the President: „A proposal has been discussed and will be translated into a measure that will be translated into a decision once we have all the documents on the table”

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă confirmed on Tuesday the discussion in the governing coalition about the surtax on the incomes of employees with a salary higher than that of the President and said he was waiting for an analysis from the Ministry of Finance before taking a decision.
„I’m not commenting until the Finance Ministry comes up with a measure. It’s true and very honest to tell you that last night we discussed what are the possibilities by which we can solve these measures. We even discussed a proposal that needs to be translated into a measure that will be translated into a decision once we have all the documents on the table. And we are not talking about over-taxation, but about taxing certain incomes”, Nicolae Ciucă replied to a question from journalists on over-taxation.

Asked whether the surtax would also apply to private employees, so that the measure would not be unconstitutional, Ciucă said: „we have not discussed it, we are waiting for the measure to be presented”.

G4Media wrote exclusively that PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu proposed on Monday afternoon, in the coalition meeting, that state employees who combine pension with salary, but also those state incomes that exceed the income of the President of Romania (approx. 25,000 lei gross) be taxed progressively.

Ciolacu later confirmed the G4Media.ro information on Tuesday morning. Ciolacu said that he had proposed in the coalition to progressively tax the income of state employees who cumulate their pension with their salary and who exceed the income of Romania’s president, of approximately 25,000 lei gross per month.

Background.

A year ago, Ciucă declared that „PNL continues to support the single rate, we do not support the introduction of new taxes and duties, and what is to be decided will be based on an analysis and a debate applied to the concrete situation of today”, according to Economedia.ro.
