Romanian President Iohannis announces almost total quarantine starting Wednesday
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday announced an almost total quarantine would come into effect across the country starting Wednesday as a means to combat the new coronavirus. The decision was announced following talks with PM Ludovic Orban and several ministers. Restrictions would include a ban on movement out of home, with very few exceptions.
The detailed rules of the quarantine would be listed in a military ordinance to be issued today and applied starting tomorrow.
The Army would be out in the streets to manage the situation along law enforcement officers.
People over 65 will not be allowed to leave home. People who are in individual quarantine or isolation will be monitored electronically.
People will only be allowed to go out to procure necessity goods or for work, if employed in key sectors.
The measures had been listed as „recommendations” for restrictions during day time in an ordinance issued last weekend. These recommendations now become obligations, the president said.
The President presented the measures as Romanian authorities announced 186 new coronavirus cases confirmed during the past 24 hours, with the total number of deaths reaching 8 on Tuesday. The total number of confirmed infection cases stood at 762 at noon today.
